POTS & Chiropractic Support in St. Petersburg, FL

Standing up shouldn't make your heart race, your vision blur or your legs feel like they might give out. But if you're living with POTS, simple things like a hot shower, a grocery run or a summer day in St. Pete can wipe you out. At Blossom Family Chiropractic, we offer gentle, nervous system-focused care that supports your autonomic nervous system, alongside the medical team managing your POTS.

What is POTS?

POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome) is a form of dysautonomia, a disorder of the autonomic nervous system. It’s diagnosed when your heart rate rises by 30+ beats per minute (40+ in teens) within 10 minutes of standing, along with symptoms like dizziness and fatigue, without a large drop in blood pressure.

Your autonomic nervous system automatically controls heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, temperature and more. In POTS, the body struggles to adjust blood flow when you stand, so blood pools in the lower body and the heart races to compensate.

POTS is most common in women ages 15–50 and often begins after a viral illness, pregnancy, surgery or trauma. It’s frequently seen alongside joint hypermobility conditions like hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS).

What are the common symptoms of POTS?

  • Racing heart when standing up
  • Dizziness, lightheadedness or fainting
  • Brain fog and trouble concentrating
  • Extreme fatigue, especially after standing or exertion
  • Heat intolerance (tough in Florida!)
  • Nausea, bloating or other gut symptoms
  • Headaches, poor sleep, anxiety-like feelings

POTS often overlaps with headaches, sleep challenges and a nervous system that struggles to regulate.

How does chiropractic support people with POTS?

Chiropractic care supports your autonomic nervous system by gently releasing neuro-spinal tension, especially in the upper neck, where the brainstem and vagus nerve help regulate heart rate and blood pressure.

INSiGHT CLA scans include heart rate variability (HRV), a direct window into autonomic balance. It gives us, and you, an objective way to track how your nervous system is adapting over time.

Because many POTS patients are hypermobile, we use gentle, low-force techniques and never push joints beyond a safe range. We’ll also schedule around your energy, start appointments lying down if needed, and give you time to sit up slowly afterward.

We work alongside your cardiologist, neurologist or primary care provider and support the plan they recommend, such as fluids, salt, compression and gradual reconditioning exercise. We’re located at 360 Central Ave, Suite 1200 in downtown St. Petersburg.

Why do St. Pete adults with POTS choose Blossom?

Nervous system function is the center of everything we do. Our collaborative team of Dr. Savy Ford and Dr. Peyton Gallentine reviews your scans together, and we’re honest about what chiropractic can and can’t do for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a chiropractor help with POTS?
Chiropractic care doesn’t directly treat POTS. At Blossom Family Chiropractic in St. Petersburg, we support the autonomic nervous system with gentle adjustments and track changes with heart rate variability scans, as one part of a plan led by your medical team.
Yes, with the right approach. We use gentle, low-force techniques, avoid overstretching hypermobile joints and adapt positioning to prevent dizziness. Let us know about any hEDS or connective tissue diagnosis.
Heart rate variability (HRV) measures the tiny changes in time between heartbeats. It reflects how flexibly your autonomic nervous system shifts between stress and rest. Tracking it helps us see how your nervous system is adapting over time.
Hydrate well, eat something salty if that’s part of your plan, wear compression if you use it, and let our front desk know if you’d like to lie down while you wait.
