Why Chiropractic care is so important for kids especially newborns

Introduction

One of the number one questions I get asked is why do kids, especially newborns, need to get adjusted? So a lot of times when we’re looking at that birth process, that’s a huge traumatic event for little ones. Doctors, if they’re helping assist that baby come out, they’re trained to use 60 to 90 pounds of force. So that’s putting a lot of pressure on a six to nine pound baby, especially in that neck area. And we commonly see that C1, C2 area is the most commonly subluxated spot. It’s right up by that brainstem and that vagus nerve. So that can put your child into a fight or flight stage, and that’s going to impact just about every bodily function in the body. So what we do is we assess that nervous system and we help them adapt better by getting that spine into a good position, making sure that it’s moving appropriately so that they can grow and develop because 80% of that neurological development in that brain and spinal cord is happening in those first two to three years of life. So we really want to make sure that we’re setting them up for success. They’re growing, they’re thriving and developing how they should. If you have any questions, book an appointment with us or give us a call at our front desk and we can get your child assessed. We do three sets of neurological scans to see how their nervous system is functioning.

What is ADHD and how chiropractic care can benefit

Introduction

When we talk about ADHD, we’re talking about a nervous system that’s on overdrive, all right? Our foot being put on that gas pedal and make it makes it really hard to be able to sit still to be able to pay attention. We might see some behavior issues come out, right? Because what’s happening is we have so much stress or nociception bombarding our brain, right? It’s like me putting you in a closet, blasting heavy metal music while flashing strobe lights. It’s a lot of overwhelms of the brain. So it makes it really hard to sit still. It makes it really hard to pay attention. I also can lose my cool really easy. So we’re going to see some emotional dysregulation. The really cool thing is we actually have scans to determine how much stress is bombarding the brain. So when we look and see a kiddo with ADHD, we actually have this scan to determine where that nociception or where that stress is coming from within the body, red being a severe amount. Now when we look at a different viewpoint, it actually gives us a total energy or an energy index looking at how much stress is bombarding the brain, all right? This kiddo was at 300 when he first started in the office. That’s three times the amount of stress we want bombarding the brain. The good news is with chiropractic care, we actually get that good proprioceptive input back online and when we do that, we decrease all of that stress bombarding the brain, all right? So kids are able to sit still. They’re able to pay attention and really succeed in school. If you have any questions, reach out. We’d love to help you!

Why is chiropractic care important for babies and young children?

Why is chiropractic care important for babies and young children? We see a ton of babies in here and a lot of people that don’t understand chiropractic. They ask “well why do you even see kids?” “Why do you see babies?” “Why should they get adjusted?” I wanted to go ahead and clarify that.

We take care of a lot of kiddos because the birth process is very stressful! Even in a vaginal delivery, OBs are using anywhere from 60 to 90 pounds of pressure to pull baby out by the top part of the neck. In a c-section delivery, a vacuum extraction or forceps delivery, they’re using upwards of 120 pounds of force. This is a lot of additional strain and stress on that upper cervical area.

There’s one nerve that falls right outside of that area called the “vagus nerve”. The Vagus Nerve controls sleep, digestion, relaxation, growth and development, immune function, all these things that kids are supposed to do! Eat, sleep, poop, grow, be healthy.

A lot of times we see kiddos come in and they’re experiencing nursing issues, colic, constipation, reflux, all of this is really common and many times caused by the subluxation in this upper cervical area. Now this is so important to actually start and correct at a young age because 80% of brain and nervous system development happen in this first three years of life. That’s the best time to make sure that your child is growing and functioning optimally.
