Scoliosis is an abnormal sideways curvature of the spine. If the curvature advances with time, it may interfere with the function of the heart, lungs, and/or other vital organs.
Three Causes of Scoliosis
- Congenital genetic predisposition
- Habitual behavioral routines
- Idiopathic unknown cause
Parents may notice a high shoulder, a low hip, uneven shoulder blades, uneven shoe wear, “humping” of the back, or if your child complains of back or leg pain.
Wait & See?
Many pediatricians will recommend that you “watch and wait”. However, if allowed to progress, the scoliosis often worsens with time.
Can Chiropractic Help Scoliosis?
Routine chiropractic adjustments have been shown to stop the progression of scoliosis and in many cases, improve the function and structure of the spine. As the spine is retrained and the spinal musculature is strengthened, scoliosis and posture can improve!
